There’s something about a beach and churning water that is so restorative for me. I could sit all day and stare at the ever changing pattern of the waves, letting all my worries wash away with the tide.
The first time I met the Mediterranean Sea I sat alone on a deserted beach outside of Rome, letting the water lap at my feet while continuously filtering the sand through my fingers. I suddenly became so overwhelmed by the enormous wave of gratitude that was crashing over me, I began to cry big crocodile tears. It was also my last night in Italy and I did not want to go home. I vowed I would be back, never imagining it would take so long to keep that promise.
I said hello to my old friend today for the first time in 6 years. The Spanish version of her personality was still crystal clear and blue, but the surrounding cliffs and steep entrances were starkly different than the flat, open Italian beaches. The gratitude for her was still with me but instead of shedding tears I shared the moment with some new friends and we laughed, skipped rocks and took in the breath taking scenery together.
Exploring the Costa Brava with people who grew up in this region of Spain brings a different kind of experience than traveling, and winging it, alone. They know the best places to visit and the history of each location, they showed us the hidden spots that weren’t inundated by tourists and took us to a fabulous restaurant to have a delicious lunch.
Inspirational Muses swirled around me today the way fairies sprinkle their magic in trails of glittery dust. In the ancient fortresses atop the mist covered mountains, in the houses perched on the enormous seaside cliffs and even in the simple restaurant that overlooked the marina.
Conjuring up fantastical ideas is my specialty. But today, I felt so much backing from the universe it was undeniable that this place holds a special kind of magic that deserves much more investigation. 💖
